Craig Parker as the villain Darken Rahl, on the other hand, improved when he was given more camera time. The episodes I liked best were the ones where he was scarce, which happened quite a few times. In smaller doses, Zedd was not unlikable at all, perhaps that is something the show itself realized and was the reason he was sent on off-camera missions so often.
He was annoying in the beginning with his "wise proverbs" that he used to make everything a teaching moment for Richard. Less enjoyable is Bruce Spence in the role of the wizard Zedd, mentor to Richard and leader of their little group. Kahlan is both strong and vulnerable from the very start she made the audience care about her character and what needed to be done to stop Darken Rahl. Bridget Regan as Kahlan Amnell is the standout of the cast. Likable from the start, Horner's acting improved steadily throughout the season as he grew more comfortable in the role. He is not burdened with doubt or indecision, setting him apart from the flawed heroes that are more prevalent in today's pop culture. Horner's Richard Cypher is a classic hero he is earnest, brave, and selfless. The greatest assets of the show are the two leads, Craig Horner and Bridget Regan. Building from that hour, the show upped the stakes for its characters and became much more involving. The real turning point in the season was the eighth episode, " Denna." That episode both introduced the Mord'Sith as recurring antagonists, and also was the first deeply emotional episode. Once the main objective was firmly established - that "Seeker" Richard Cypher was on a mission to kill the evil ruler Darken Rahl - then the show was free to give us more action and keep things moving.
The Tribune Company has decided not to renew the series as of March 4, 2010, but it may still be picked up by another network as Legend of the Seeker is owned by ABC and not Tribune.The first few episodes were burdened with too much exposition, but that is an unavoidable problem when introducing a new fantasy series to an audience who may not be familiar with the books on which the story is based.
